Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said 36.25 lakh poor families will get financial assistance as gift from the Prime Minister on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.<\/p>\n
He said this at a regular press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence here.<\/p>\n
Quader said the government has already taken different initiatives to ensure financial security of the distressed and vulnerable people who became jobless in the wake of coronavirus outbreak and due to lockdown.<\/p>\n
In the continuation of that, 1.25 crore families which have fallen in trouble due to lockdown will get food aid, he added.<\/p>\n
Mentioning that AL\u2019s political culture is to stand by the vulnerable people, he urged the people of all classes and professions irrespective of political affiliation to stand by the destitute and those rendered jobless during the pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cExtend humanitarian assistances to the distressed and helpless people during the holy Ramadan, the month of sacrifice, generosity and sharing,\u201d he urged the affluent people.<\/p>\n
Turning to BNP\u2019s politics, he urged BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to establish democracy inside the party at first before making different comments on the country\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n
\u201cBNP from head to toe practice undemocratic values in their talks, behaviors and politics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
About the current coronavirus situation, the AL general secretary said every day the country is losing valuable lives and the \u2018procession of death\u2019 is getting longer.<\/p>\n
\u201cCoronavirus doesn\u2019t know political party. During this period, there should be no politics of blaming and making blind criticisms. We all should remain cautious at our highest level and maintain health guidelines to check the spread of the virus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the road transport and bridges minister virtually joined a review meeting of the Bridges Division on different development works.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the occasion, he said the Padma Bridge construction works is going ahead facing different challenges.<\/p>\n
All the 41 spans have already been installed and now the works of putting slabs of road and railway is going on, he said, adding that the progress of the Padma Bridge construction stood at 85 percent till Saturday.<\/p>\n
He hoped the Padma Bridge construction work will be completed by June, 2022 and then it will be opened for vehicular movement.<\/p>\n
The minister said the construction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel beneath the Karnaphuli river in Chattogram is going ahead fast.<\/p>\n
Around 2.5 kilometer tube ring has already been installed along with boring works while road slab construction works in 400 meter has been completed, he said, adding the progress of the tunnel contraction is 66.50 so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
