Another grim milestone passed in just 10 days<\/p>\n
The death toll from the coronavirus infection has surpassed the grim 11,000-mark in Bangladesh, with another 101 fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n
With the latest figures, the number of total fatalities surged to 11,053 as of Sunday.<\/p>\n
As the coronavirus ripping through the country in a fresh wave, over 1,000 people died in the last 10 days. Fatalities in Bangladesh crossed 10,000 on April 15.<\/p>\n
Previously, it took 15 days \u2013 two weeks \u2013 to reach 9,000 deaths to 10,000, which in turn took 67 days \u2013\u00a0 nearly 10 weeks \u2013 from 8,000-mark. This shows an alarming rise in Covid-19 deaths in the country recently.<\/p>\n
It took 404 days to top 11,000 deaths since confirming the first Covid-19 fatality on March 18.<\/p>\n
The country took 85 days or almost three months to cross 1,000 deaths threshold; 110 days to 2,000; and 133 days or around three-and-a-half months to 3,000. The 4,000th, 5,000th, and 6,000th deaths came in 161, 189, and 232 days respectively.<\/p>\n
The country crossed the 7,000 mark in 270 days, 8,000 mark in 312, 9,000 mark in 379 days, and 10,000 mark in 394 days since confirming first Covid-19 death.<\/p>\n
Bangladesh also logged a total of 745,322 coronavirus cases with 2,922 people testing positive over the same 24-hour period, according to figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.<\/p>\n
With the latest development, the country logged over 100 deaths again after six days.<\/p>\n
Of the 101 deceased \u2013 52 men and 49 women \u2013 54 were from Dhaka division; 23 from Chittagong; eight from Sylhet; seven from Barisal; five from Khulna; two from Rangpur; and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions.<\/p>\n
Of them, 69 patients died in government hospitals and 32 in private hospitals.<\/p>\n
Sixty-five of the deceased patients were aged above 60, 18 between 51 and 60, 11 between 41 and 50, three each aged from 31 to 40 and 21 to 30, and one aged below ten.<\/p>\n
So far, 8,120 men (73.46%) and 2,933 women (26.54%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.<\/p>\n
Since the beginning, 6,451 people have died in Dhaka division, 2,000 in Chittagong, 578 in Rajshahi, 673 in Khulna, 328 in Barisal, 373 in Sylhet, 415 in Rangpur, and 235 in Mymensingh.<\/p>\n
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.48%.<\/p>\n
The health authorities said 4,301 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.<\/p>\n
So far, 657,452 patients \u2013 88.21% \u2013 have made full recovery across the country.<\/p>\n
As many as 21,922 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 350 authorized labs — government and private — across the country.<\/p>\n
The latest figures show an infection rate of 13.33%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 13.94%.<\/p>\n
Currently, 19,438 people are in isolation and 53,222 are quarantined.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, another 20,194 people got the first dose, taking the total number of first doses to 5,798,880. While 187,321 got the second dose during the same time, taking the total vaccinated to 2,155,296.<\/p>\n
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.<\/p>\n
The novel coronavirus broke out in China’s Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.<\/p>\n
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 3,115,268 lives and infected 147,170,834 people across the world till Sunday afternoon, according to Worldometer.<\/p>\n
