A Dhaka court on Friday placed former Lakshmipur-1 lawmaker and Islami Ganatantri Party Chairman MA Awal on four-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Shahinuddin in capital\u2019s Pallabi area on May 16.<\/p>\n
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessy passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and prayed for a 10-day remand period.<\/p>\n
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Awal, the main accused and alleged mastermind behind the brutal murder, from Bhairab Bazar area on early May 20.<\/p>\n
On May 16, the accused called up Shahinuddin on his mobile phone and asked him to come to Mirpur 12 on the pretext of resolving a land dispute.<\/p>\n
When the victim reached the area at around 4pm on the day, the assailants attacked him, hacking him to death with sharp weapons in front of his seven-year-old son.<\/p>\n
A murder case was filed at Pallabi Police Station on May 17 against several people, including Awal, Sumon and Rocky by the victim\u2019s mother Aklima Begum.<\/p>\n
According to Aklima Begum, Awal killed Shahinuddin with hired contract over a land dispute.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press briefing in Dhaka, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB’s legal and media wing, said: \u201cSumon, after murdering Shahinuddin, called Awal and said \u2013 \u2018Sir, finished!\u2019 They talked for 30 seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso, a few days ago, we arrested Hasan, 19, from Chandpur and Zahirul Islam Babu, 27, from Patuakhali in connection with the murder.\u201d<\/p>\n
