The government would set the prices of nine daily commodities including rice, wheat, flour, and oil, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said.<\/p>\n
If any product is sold at a price higher than the fixed rate, the concerned party will not be fined, instead, a case will be filed against them from now on, he told reporters after a meeting at the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
So far, rice, wheat, flour, oil, refined sugar, pulses, cement, and rod prices have been discussed, he added.<\/p>\n
Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission has been entrusted with the responsibility of fixing the new prices.<\/p>\n
While the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and Bangladesh Competition Commission would supervise the markets for irregularities.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi held a closed-door meeting with stakeholders on the progress of the market’s supply, storage, and import processes.<\/p>\n
Tipu Munshi on Thursday said the government has no restrictions barring it from importing food products from Russia and Ukraine or any other country.<\/p>\n
