Refrigerators manufactured locally are dominating country\u2019s refrigerator-market, holding 80% of its total market share, whereas Bangladesh was almost fully dependent on imported refrigerators to meet its demand just a decade ago.<\/p>\n
Of the 80%, Walton holds a lion share of 66% while Marcel, Jamuna, Vision, Minister and other local manufacturers occupy the remaining market share, according to a survey conducted by Marketing Watch Bangladesh (MWB), A Dhaka University based non-profit organization.<\/p>\n
The findings of the research were unveiled on Monday at a press briefing held at the Dhaka University Marketing department’s conference room in the capital.<\/p>\n
The research team was consisted of Marketing department chairman Prof Mizanur Rahman, Associate Prof Md Nazmul Hossain, Associate Prof Rafiuddin Ahmed and researcher Sakhawat Hossain.<\/p>\n
The researchers came to the result after conducting direct interviews of 1,778 users of refrigerator while 662 consumers participated in online surveys.<\/p>\n
A total of 10 focus group discussion and expert opinions were also included in the procedure.<\/p>\n
The refrigerator industry in Bangladesh has seen a rapid growth since the last two decade and the tendency of purchasing refrigerators has increased at a large scale in rural areas, compared to urban cities, for affordable price, said Md Nazmul Hossain, a co-founder of the MWB.<\/p>\n
Electrification and low cost played vital role in the tremendous selling growth of refrigerator.<\/p>\n
Moreover, reasonable price, automatic heating system, power efficient inverter technology, real time temperature display, holiday mode, turbo mode and super-cool modes have attracted customers largely.<\/p>\n
