The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) yesterday congratulated Bangladesh over its graduation to a developing nation from the Least Development Country (LDC).<\/p>\n
Newly appointed BISTEC Secretary General (SG) Tenzin Lekphell conveyed the congratulation when he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.<\/p>\n
PM\u2019s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the media after the meeting.<\/p>\n
The BIMSTEC SG also highly appreciated the government of Sheikh Hasina for its tremendous success in Bangladesh\u2019s sociology-economic development, particularly for successfully tackling the Covid-19 pandemic, under her dynamic leadership.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister hoped that the coronavirus situation would further improve in the days to come.<\/p>\n
Recalling the contribution of Bhutan to the great War of Liberation with due gratitude, Sheikh Hasina said Bhutan was the first country to recognise Bangladesh\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n
The new SG of the BIMSTEC, who is a Bhutanese, conveyed greetings of the King and the Prime Minister of his country to the Premier.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister also extended her greetings to the Bhutanese King and the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister\u2019s Principal Secretary Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus was present.<\/p>\n
Tenzin Lekphell from the Kingdom of Bhutan assumed his charges as the secretary general of BIMSTEC on 06 November, 2020.<\/p>\n
