Hefazat leader Mufti Lokman Hossain Amini arrested

The 45-year-old Hefazat leader was arrested from Rupganj in Narayanganj on Saturday night

Police have arrested Mufti Lokman Hossain Amini on charges of making anti-state statements and instigating violence during the series of violent protests carried out by Hefazat-e-Islam in Narayanganj, last month.

The 45-year-old Hefazat leader was arrested from near the Mortuzabad Jame Mosque in Rupganj upazila on Saturday night, confirmed Rupganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) HM Jasim Uddin on Sunday.

He has been shown arrested in a case filed over the violence following the confinement of Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque with a woman at a resort in Narayanganj on April 3.

According to police sources, local Hefazat organizer Mufti Lokman, has been posting provocative, anti-state posts through his social media handles for quite some time.

Besides, evidence suggests that he was directly involved in the violent protests on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Narayanganj during Hefazat’s countrywide strike on March 26, the sources added.

OC Jasim said: “Lokman, khatib of Mortuzabad Jame Mosque, has been handed over to the district police. Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation.”
