Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, a student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on Saturday staged a protest rally demanding the reopening of all educational institutions immediately and ensuring a drug-free campus.  The rally took place at the base of anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture at about 11:00am presided over by JCD Dhaka University unit convener Md Rakibul Islam Rakib while its member secretary Md Amanullah Aman conducted the programme with the presence of more than two hundred leaders and activists from different units.   In the rally, JCD central president Fazlur Rahman Khokon said, ‘Due to Covid-19 pandemic all the educational campuses of the country remained closed for more than a year. Although the government cried for online classes, there was no precise plan in implementing it.’  ‘The education rate of the country is very low and the unemployment rate is very high. The nation is being meritless due to the ongoing closure and the unemployment rate will further increase, and many will cross the age limit of job entry exams,’ he added.   He demanded the reopening of educational institutions immediately to bring students to their regular life. Otherwise they will announce their next actions, he added.  JCD DU unit convener Md Rakibul Islam Rakib, said, ‘The educational institutions remained closed since March 18 of last year for Covid-19 but rest of the economic and other institutions are open to its workers. The undemocratic government has prolonged the vacation for a political purpose.’  ‘There is a possibility of reopening schools and colleges from June 13 but what about the universities?’ he asked.   Not even a single student of DU got affected with Yaba till 2006, but now this is available all over the country. What was the motive behind making it available, he asked.  He called upon Bangladesh Chhatra League to carry out an anti-drug programme.  The general secretary of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal Iqbal Hosen Shyamol, joint secretary Aminur Rahman Amin, senior vice-president Kazi Rounokul Islam Srabon, DU unit joint-convener Akter Hosen, DU JCD leader Riyad Rahman, among others, were present in the event.
