The newlywed couple, who got married on Saturday, lost their parents after a girder fell onto a car from a crane in Dhaka’s Uttara.
The bride, Riya Moni, lost her mother Fahima Akhtar, and the groom, Hridoy, lost his father Rubel Hasan on Monday.
Family members said their car was going from Dakshin Khan to Ashulia to attend the reception of Riya and Hridoy.
At that time, Hridoy, Riya, Fahima’s sister Jharna and her two children were in the car while Hridoy’s father Rubel was driving it.
After the girder fell on the car during Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project work, Riya and Hridoy were able to get out of the vehicle, but could not manage to save the other family members.
Despite their injuries, the couple is now in stable condition. They are admitted to a hospital in Uttara.
Hridoy’s mother Amena Begum said: “My house had a festive look because my son got married. We were on our way to the reception, but now, I have lost my husband.”
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against Bus Rapid Transit’s contractor over the incident.
The brother of the deceased Fahima Akhtar and Jharna Akhtar filed the case with Uttara west police station at midnight.
Afran Mondal Babu filed the case against China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) alleging negligence, said OC Mohammad Mohsin.
Several unnamed people including the crane operator has been named in the case. Meanwhile, a three-member committee has been formed to probe the incident, confirmed BRT Director Shafiqul Islam.
