Probe started into blast that hurt comedian Rony, 4 policemen

A probe body has been formed by Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) to investigate the gas balloon explosion that left Bangladeshi stand-up comedian Abu Hena Rony and four others injured on Friday.

The four-member committee headed by Deputy Commissioner Abu Torab Shamsur Rahman was formed last night after the incident, said GMP Assistant Commissioner (Media) Abu Sayem Nayan.

The probe body has been asked to submit a report within three working days, he added.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge Bacchu Mia, citing resident surgeon SM Ayub Hossain told that Abu Hena Rony is still in critical condition.

One of his ears and the trachea were burnt during the gas balloon explosion, he added.

Rony is being closely monitored in an intensive care unit (ICU).

On Friday evening, Bangladeshi stand-up comedian Abu Hena Rony and four others sustained burn injuries in a gas blast on the fourth founding anniversary event of GMP.

Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Rafiqul Islam said the injured – Rony, Mosharraf Hossain, Zillur Rahman, Imran Hossain and Rubel Hossain – had been rushed to the hospital.

Later, Rony, Mosharraf Hossain and Zillur were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, he said.
