Protesters besiege Salahuddin Quader’s family house in Chittagong

The demonstrators painted the words “Razakar Hill” and “Torture Centre for Freedom Fighters” on the walls of the late BNP leader’s residence

Protesting Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury’s son Hummam Quader referring his father as a “martyr”, Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command on Saturday encircled Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury’s ancestral home, “Goods Hill”.

The protesters also staged demonstration in the Gani Bakery area of the city urging that the children and spouses of condemned war criminals should be banned from politics and property should be seized.

During the protest, the agitators painted the words “Razakar Hill” and “Torture Centre for Freedom Fighters” on the walls of the late BNP leader’s residence.

On October 12, during the BNP divisional grand assembly in Chittagong, Hummam Quader Chowdhury said his father convicted war criminal Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was a martyr and raised the slogan “Naraye Takbeer”.

On October 18, the members of the Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command gave Salahuddin Quader’s son Hummam Quader seven days to apologize for referring to his father as a “martyr” during a protest rally held in the Press Club area.

On October 22, when an apology was not received within the specified time frame, the Good’s Hill blockade program on October 29 was announced.

Gazi Nurul Abshar, an International Criminal Tribunal witness who took part in the protest rally and Good’s Hill blockade program, said: ” I’m a witness in the case against Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury at the International Criminal Tribunal. I fought in the liberation war. It is quite regrettable that we have to speak out against Razakar once more after 50 years of freedom.”

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the local Awami League, the Chhatra League, and the Jubo League declared solidarity with the program.

Speakers warned of staging more extensive protests if the demands of the Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command were not met immediately.

On Friday evening, the organization held a torch procession at the Chittagong Press Club grounds in the Jamal Khan area to start the protest programs.
