3 Cox’s Bazar cops arrested for attempted robbery Cox’s Bazar

They robbed Tk3 lakh from a woman at gunpoint after breaking into her house

Three members of Cox’s Bazar police were arrested on Monday in a case filed for robbing Tk3 lakh from a woman at gunpoint after breaking into her house in the town.

The arrestees are Sub-Inspector Nurul Huda, Constable Muminul Mamun and Constable Mamun Mollah of the city police outpost under Cox’s Bazar sadar police station.

According to the case statement, the trio wearing plain clothes mugged Tk3 lakhs from Rozina Khatun, wife of businessman Riaz Ahmed, a resident of Kutubdia area in the town.

Sensing the incident, locals captured one of the robbers and handed him over to Cox’s Bazar sadar police through the National Hotline number 999.

A case was lodged under the Speedy Trial Act against all those involved in the incident, said Additional Superintendent Md Rafiqul Islam of Cox’s Bazar police.

“The case has been recorded according to the plaintiff’s statement. Three policemen have also been arrested in the case and the process of taking administrative action against those involved is underway,” he said.

The victim’s husband Reaz Ahmed said: “My wife arranged the money [Tk3 lakh] from her relatives to run a gas-cylinder supply shop near the Asrayan Project in Khurushkhul union.”

On Monday, a group of five-six people in plain clothes forcefully entered the house, beat her up and snatched away the money from her at gunpoint, he said.
