The test to make the profile will be conducted using samples collected during her autopsy
A Dhaka court has allowed police to conduct a DNA test of Mosarat Jahan Munia in the case filed against Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir for allegedly abetting her suicide.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order on Wednesday after Gulshan police OC Abul Hasan, also the case investigation officer, submitted a petition in this regard.
In the petition, OC Abul had sought permission to conduct the test by examining Munia’s samples collected during her autopsy by the forensic department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He said it was necessary to make her DNA profile for a fair investigation.
Police recovered 21-year-old Munia’s body from a flat in Gulshan 1 on Monday evening. It is suspected that she committed suicide.
A second-year student at Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College, Munia had been living in the flat, which Sayem had rented for her, since March.
Munia and Sayem have allegedly been in a secret relationship for the past two years.
Her sister Nusrat Jahan filed the case at Gulshan police station, several hours after she found Munia dead, accusing Sayem of abetting Munia’s suicide.
A Dhaka court on Tuesday also imposed a travel ban on Sayem, barring him from leaving the country.
Sayem is the son of Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, chairman of Bashundhara Group, one of the largest industrial conglomerates in Bangladesh.
